Frequently Asked Questions
(F.A.Q.) |
- Q.
Does ZipCentral run on Windows 2000?
- A.
The current versions 2.02 and 2.06 will run on Windows 2000 with
some limitations. To make ZipCentral run on a Windows 2000 system,
the user starting ZipCentral needs administrative rights (i.e.
logged on as Administrator or member of the Administrators group).
These versions of ZipCentral were not designed to run on Windows
2000, therefore no support can be given on issues that arise from
the use of ZipCentral on Windows 2000. Support for Windows 2000 is
planned to be included in the next release of ZipCentral.
- Q.
Can I control ZipCentral with command line options?
- A.
No, currently there are no command line options included. Support
for this may be added later on.
- Q.
Is ZipCentral compatible with WinZip and PKZip?
- A.
Yes. It should be compatible with all
Zip-archives created in production versions of
WinZip and PKZip.
- Q.
When I open a zip file, I can not see any files
within it even though ZipCentral shows the
correct number of files in the status bar. What
is wrong?
- A.
You probably have an old version of some of the
Windows system files. ZipCentral uses features
included in a newer version of the file
COMCTL32.DLL than the version included in the
original Windows 95 and Windows NT 4 release.
Follow the procedure below to check if you need
to update your system:
1) Click on the Start Menu and choose Find->Files
or Folders.
2) In the Named field, type
"comctl32.dll".
3) In the Look In field, type the path
to your \Windows\System folder (usually
C:\Windows\System or C:\WinNT\System32).
4) When the file is displayed, right-click it to
bring up a menu.
5) Choose Properties and then click on
the Version tab.
6) If the file version is less than 4.70 (i.e.
4.00.950), you need an update to make ZipCentral
run properly. In some cases, you may need an
update even if the version is 4.70.
If your system needs to be updated, download the Microsoft Windows Common Controls
Update.
When the download is complete, double-click on
the 50comupd.exe file you just downloaded and
follow the instructions to install the update.
- Q.
In the "Add files and folders to current
archive" window, there are six buttons with
no images and no text. Why is that?
- A.
Please see the answer to the previous question
above.
- Q.
When I click on E-mail archive nothing happens.
What's wrong?
- A.
Currently, this function does not work well with
certain versions of Microsoft Outlook Express. It
works better with the full version of Microsoft
Outlook. If a solution is found, it will be
included in a future version of ZipCentral.
- Q.
Why is the 'Virus Scan' menu item in ZipCentral
2.00 grayed out?
- A.
It is grayed out because you have not specified
which scanning program to use. Click on 'Options'
and then 'Configuration' in the main menu, then
select the 'Program Locations' tab and enter the
scanner you have installed.
- Q.
I have detected a problem with ZipCentral and I
suspect it might be a bug. What should I do?
- A.
First, check that you are running the latest
version of ZipCentral. The latest version number
can be found on the What's New page and on the
Download page on this website. The version of
your copy of ZipCentral can be found in the About
box. If you are running the latest version,
please send a bugreport. Click
here to
find out how to write the bugreport. If you are
not running the latest version, please download
and install it and see if the problem still
exists.
- Q.
Does ZipCentral run on Windows NT 3.51 or
earlier?
- A.
No, it does not. Support for NT 3.51 will not be added.
- Q.
Can I get support on how to use ZipCentral?
- A.
Yes and No. Limited support can be obtained by
sending an e-mail to zcentral@hotmail.com. No guarantees of reply
can be given since all work with ZipCentral is
done on my spare time.
